[Near Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park] Experience Japanese culture, art, and spirituality with this calligraphy experience at a long-established folk craft store surrounded by ukiyo-e prints. Calligraphy is an art form that symbolizes Japanese culture, while also serving as a meditation to calm the mind. This experience will be conducted by a professional calligrapher, providing thorough instruction that is easy to understand, even for beginners. The event will be held at Bonkogei Takumi, a long-established folk craft store founded 50 years ago. Surrounded by ukiyo-e prints, this quiet and highly artistic space will allow you to experience traditional Japanese culture up close. Using handmade brushes made in Kumano, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan's number one brush-making town, you will learn basic brush techniques and try your hand at writing hiragana and kanji. Your finished work will be printed on a fan or colored paper, which you can take home as a one-of-a-kind souvenir of Japanese culture. Recommended for those new to calligraphy and those interested in Japanese culture. All tools are provided, so you can participate empty-handed. Experience flow: ■ Introduction to calligraphy tools ■ Practice basic lines (dots, horizontal lines, sweeps, etc.) ■ Practice hiragana and kanji ■ Choose your favorite word or kanji and write it on a fan or colored paper → Take home your one-of-a-kind "hand-drawn fan or colored paper."
